Salary – Hourly rate to £55.00/ 47 hours per week contract

Our client is a multi-national provider of engineering design, project management, industrial and engineering solutions for a wide range of leading manufacturing, power, oil & gas, chemical, and utilities across the UK.

Role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical project manager to lead the mechanical Design and Installation works for a large manufacturing project located in the Midlands. Suitable candidates will have a minimum of 10 years relevant mechanical design and installation experience and able to lead a team of up to 20 people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To oversee, lead and project manage the full mechanical Design & Installation process for a complex multi-discipline project;

  • Individual must organize and plan mechanical design activities, create construction documents and lead installation/construction and perform project management in conjunction with other disciplines;

  • To allocate mechanical engineering resources to project in conjunction with relevant Managers;

  • Effective leadership and management of mechanical Installation teams and Design Engineers to achieve agreed engineering goals;

  • To solve complex mechanical engineering issues and problems requiring significant judgement and technical expertise across process, piping and structural disciplines;

  • To provide mechanical technical advice and work with Project Director;

  • To develop effective engineering processes and standards;

  • Ensure mechanical project and systems are compliant with applicable codes, cost effective and meet the desired design criteria while adhering to budget and schedule guidelines;

  • Ensure project is completed safely and reliably with minimal impact to customer operations;

  • Successfully interface with customer and maintain effective communications;

Skills/ Knowledge required

  • Broad knowledge of:

  • Mechanical design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria;

  • Mechanical design, construction, and operations within a complex manufacturing environment; Engineering administration;

  • Practices, processes, and expectations with respect to project management and engineering;

  • Strong organizational, people management, and technical skills;

  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities;

  • Knowledge of client design requirements across manufacturing;

  • Prepare contingency plans for the unexpected (pro-active, forward-looking);

  • Strong analytical skills for assessing problems and developing corrective actions;

  • Excellent time management and priority-setting skills; ability to effectively advance multiple activities concurrently;

  • Ability to interface professionally and effectively with all levels of management;

  • Excellent people skills including leadership and influencing others;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;

  • Use Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, AutoCAD, Project and similar software to complete various tasks associated with the work above;

Personal Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10+ years of mechanical engineering design, installation and project management experience

  • Experience within industrial manufacturing

  • A proven track record of delivering to client expectations with a recognised provider of mechanical engineering services.

  • Credible mechanical project manager with appropriate gravitas and able to contribute at SMT level

  • Experience with a variety of mechanical systems, such as structural, water cooling systems, fuel systems, hot water, chemicals, air, exhaust.
