Role - Design and Engineering Manager

Location - North East

Salary – £72,000 basic, plus Car allowance and benefits

Our client is a multi-national provider of engineering design, project management industrial and engineering solutions for a wide range of leading power, oil gas, chemical, utilities and manufacturing client organisations across the UK.

Role

We are seeking an experienced senior manager to lead the Design and Engineering team with a minimum of 10 years relevant mechanical design & installation experience and able to lead a team of up to 20 people.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • To oversee the full Design & Installation process for complex mechanical and E&I engineering projects
  • Resource Management - (budgets, tools, processes, project support): Implements resource management strategy. Manages engineering resources for multi discipline teams
  • To support the growth of the North East business, working with members of the Senior Management Team and contribute to the strategic direction of the business
  • To represent the company in technical presentations, bids and negotiations with customers and suppliers
  • Effective leadership and management of Design and Mechanical Engineers to achieve agreed engineering goals
  • To contribute solutions to engineering issues and problems requiring significant judgement and technical expertise, along with providing related guidance and direction to others
  • Prepares complex engineering calculations following standard methods and principles
  • Manages assigned budget, schedule, and quality requirements
  • Independently applies advanced engineering techniques and analysis problems and methods, coordinating multiple discipline activity
  • Typically supports multiple projects on complex technical challenges
  • To provide technical advice and work with those involved in the preparation of bids
  • To support and promote our engineering capability in the marketplace with both existing and new clients assisting with business development
  • To develop effective engineering processes and standards and support the need to meet statutory and industry requirements

Skills/ Knowledge required

  • Broad and extensive knowledge of:
    • Design standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria

    • Offshore/ onshore facilities and structures design, construction, and operations

    • Engineering administration

    • Practices, processes, and expectations with respect to project engineering

  • Strong organizational, people management, and technical skills
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities
  • Knowledge of client design requirements across multiple industry sectors
  • Prepare contingency plans for the unexpected (pro-active, forward-looking)

Personal Requirements and Qualifications

  • 10+ years of engineering design & installation professional experience at engineering management level
  • Mechanically oriented
  • Qualified in Mechanical and Design Engineering
  • A proven track record of delivering to client expectations with a recognised provider of mechanical engineering services.
  • Ability to deliver to high quality standards and be a strong communicator.
  • Drive to get the job done.
  • Credible senior manager with appropriate gravitas and able to contribute at SMT level
